I realize that I have forgotten to post for a short while, life has been having fun bating me around like it's little play toy! I have of course collected tons of quotes and I shall make it up to you!!
V for Vendetta
1. Evey Hammond: Are you a Muslim?
Gordon Deitrich: No. I'm in television
2. V: [Evey pulls out her mace] I can assure you I mean you no harm.
Evey Hammond: Who are you?
V: Who? Who is but the form following the function of what and what I am is a man in a mask.
Evey Hammond: Well I can see that.
V: Of course you can. I'm not questioning your powers of observation I'm merely remarking upon the paradox of asking a masked man who he is.
Evey Hammond: Oh. Right.
3. V: I told you, only truth. For 20 years, I sought only this day. Nothing else existed... until I saw you. Then everything changed. I fell in love with you Evey. And to think I no longer believed I could.
Evey Hammond: But I don't want you to die.
V: That's the most beautiful thing you could have ever given me.
4. Evey Hammond: What is that you're making?
Gordon Deitrich: We call it "eggie in the basket". My mum used to make them.
Evey Hammond: This is weird.
Gordon Deitrich: What?
Evey Hammond: The first morning I was with him, he made me eggs just like this.
Gordon Deitrich: Really?
Evey Hammond: I swear.
Gordon Deitrich: That is a strange coincidence. Although, there's an obvious explanation.
Evey Hammond: There is?
Gordon Deitrich: Yes, Evey. I am V. At last you know the truth. You're stunned, I know. It's hard to believe isn't it, that beneath this wrinkled, well-fed exterior there lies a dangerous killing machine with a fetish for Fawkesian masks. Viva la revolution!
Evey Hammond: That is *not* funny, Gordon.
Gordon Deitrich: [sighs] Yeah, I know. I'm useless without a studio audience.
5. Remember, remember, the Fifth of November, the Gunpowder Treason and Plot. I know of no reason why the Gunpowder Treason should ever be forgot... But what of the man? I know his name was Guy Fawkes and I know, in 1605, he attempted to blow up the Houses of Parliament. But who was he really? What was he like? We are told to remember the idea, not the man, because a man can fail. He can be caught, he can be killed and forgotten, but 400 years later, an idea can still change the world. I've witnessed first hand the power of ideas, I've seen people kill in the name of them, and die defending them... but you cannot kiss an idea, cannot touch it, or hold it... ideas do not bleed, they do not feel pain, they do not love... And it is not an idea that I miss, it is a man... A man that made me remember the Fifth of November. A man that I will never forget.
Braveheart
6. William Wallace: There's a difference between us. You think the people of this country exist to provide you with position. I think your position exists to provide those people with freedom. And I go to make sure that they have it.
7.Princess Isabelle: I understand you have suffered. I know... about your woman.
William Wallace: [pauses] She was my wife. We married in secret because I would not share her with an English lord. They killed her to get to me. I've never spoken of it, I don't know why I tell you now, except... I see her strength in you. One day, you'll be a queen. And you must open your eyes. You tell your king that William Wallace will *not* be ruled... and nor will any Scot while I live.
8. William Wallace: [voiceover] In the Year of our Lord 1314, patriots of Scotland - starving and outnumbered - charged the fields of Bannockburn. They fought like warrior poets; they fought like Scotsmen, and won their freedom.
9. William Wallace: Now tell me, what does that mean to be noble? Your title gives you claim to the throne of our country, but men don't follow titles, they follow courage. Now our people know you. Noble, and common, they respect you. And if you would just lead them to freedom, they'd follow you. And so would I.
10. Princess Isabelle: You see? Death comes to us all. But before it comes to you, know this: your blood dies with you. A child who is not of your line grows in my belly. Your son will not sit long on the throne. I swear it.
Tangled
1. Rapunzel: Something brought you here, Flynn Rider. Call it what you will... fate... destiny...
Flynn Rider: A horse.
2. Flynn Rider: You should know that this is the strangest thing I have ever done!
3. Flynn Rider: You smell that? Take a deep breath through the nose.
[Breathes through nose]
Flynn Rider: Really let that seep in. What are you getting? Because to me, that's part man-smell, and the other part is really bad man-smell. I don't know why, but overall it just smells like the color brown. Your thoughts?
4. Flynn Rider: Oh... oh no... where is my satchel?
Rapunzel: [proudly] I've hidden it. Somewhere you'll never find it.
Flynn Rider: [Looks around the room for 2 seconds] It's in that pot, isn't it?
[Rapunzel hits him with her frying pan]
5. Flynn Rider: Let me just get this straight, I take you to see the lanterns, bring you back home, and you'll give me back my satchel?
Rapunzel: I promise.
[Flynn gives Rapunzel an unconvinced look]
Rapunzel: And when I promise something, I never ever break that promise.
[Flynn is still unconvinced]
Rapunzel: EVER!
How to Train Your Dragon
6. Hiccup: Thank you for the breast-hat.
7. Hiccup: "Excuse me, barmaid! I'm afraid you brought me the wrong offspring! I ordered an extra-large boy with beefy arms, extra guts and glory on the side. This here, this is a talking fish-bone!"
8. Gobber: Oh, nice of you to join the party! I thought you'd been carried off!
Hiccup: Who, me? Nah, come on! I'm way too muscular for their taste! They wouldn't know what to do with... all this!
[gesturing to himself and flexing]
Gobber: Well, they need toothpicks, don't they?
9. Hiccup: You, sir, are playing a dangerous game! Keeping this much raw viking-ness contained! There will be consequences!
Gobber: [deadpan] I'll take my chances.
10. Hiccup: Thanks for nothing you useless dragon!!!!

Random Entry
This is from Monday's class with the "person view" writing activity we did.
Hans the Chicken Plucker
1st Person
I hate my job. I'm a chicken plucker and I'm vegetarian. Ironic I know. Every morning I force myself out of bed, consumed with dread of how many more animals I'm condeming to slaughter.
I make myself a pot of coffee and sit down to a bowl of cereal. The ticking of my kitchen wall clock echos throughout my small 70's trailer. Only twenty minutes left I leave.
I hate the idea of coming home after 8 hours being covered in feathers and blood.
It depresses me, leaves me restless. I have a .9 mm in the closet, I ponder using it someday.
2nd Person
I gave up on this one- I'm horrible at this one! >.<
3rd Person
He never liked waking up at four in the morning. Before the sun peaked over the horizon. What he really hated though eas his job. Hans was a chicken plucker. For 8 hours a day he would stand at the cold metal slab tables and rip out feathers. What made it worse was that he was vegetarian. Some days while eating breakfast and drinking his coffee he would recall his H & K .9 mm that was hidden in his closet. He hoped to use it someday.

Popular Mechanics by Raymond Carver
This short story was written very well, the nameless characters helps the reader to focus on the baby, the action, and it keeps the reader emotionally detatched from the mother and father.
The language is minimal which keeps the story flowing easily. "hotter the topic, the cooler the language"
The title of the short story conveys the "everywhere" nature which further dehumanizes the characters. It has very formal structure in the plot, setting, and character development.
The length is more like a "punch in the face" because it keeps the story short and it leaves out a lot of details to help the reader understand. It is more implied towards the action and why the husband was leaving.
The ending is horrible. It causes the reader to be in denial of what happened to the child. It is only implied that the child was killed and ripped apart. At least it did not go into details about how it was done and how bloody it was!

King George VI: My physicians say it relaxes the throat.
Lionel Logue: They're idiots.
King George VI: They've all been knighted.
Lionel Logue: Makes it official then.
~ The Kings Speech

6. Sherlock Holmes: You've never complained about my methods before.
Dr. John Watson: I'm not complaining.
Sherlock Holmes: You're not? What do you call this?
Dr. John Watson: I never complain! How am I complaining? When do I ever complain about you practicing the violin at three in the morning, or your mess, your general lack of hygiene, or the fact that you steal my clothes?
Sherlock Holmes: Uh, we have a barter system...
Dr. John Watson: When have I ever complained about you setting fire to my rooms?
Sherlock Holmes: Our rooms...
Dr. John Watson: The rooms! Or, or, the fact that you experiment on my dog?
Sherlock Holmes: Our dog...
Dr. John Watson: The dog!
Sherlock Holmes: Gladstone is our dog!

8. Sherlock Holmes: It's a matter of professional integrity! No girl wants to marry a doctor who can't tell if a man's dead or not!
9. Sherlock Holmes: There's only at one case that intrigues me at present. The curious case of Mrs. Hudson, the absentee landlady. I've been studying her comings and goings, they appear most... sinister.
Mrs. Hudson: Tea, Mr. Holmes?
Sherlock Holmes: Is it poisoned, Nanny?
Mrs. Hudson: There's enough of that in you already

If you do not know where the last 5 quotes come from then you should be utterly ashamed of yourself!

Random Impulse #2
Well for this random impulse I wish to post a weird poem thingy that I wrote in class FOREVER ago!!!
It is the playing with words and phrases. It is horrible I know, so have at it!
I would hate to be blind. Blind. Too blind. Be Blind. Hate blindness. Hackneyed blindness. Hard resemblence. Apple. Could you. Presently. What comes first. Chicken or egg. Egg. Neither. Blind. Hate. Sounds. Shrieking. Scathing. pain. Painful. Shut. Sound. Shut. Sister. Angry mad. Sister sister. Shares.. All my love. Love all my shares. My shares all love. Love. Hear. My thoughts hold my hear. I never saw her till I saw her. 209.209.209. Captive reviving. House furnished with love. Goodness.

Reading Response #2
Chapter 11 was over Subject, and that is a huge problem I have with my writing. I start on something not knowing where I want to go with it or what I am writing about it.
It helped me a lot with the few tricks up its sleeve. It goes into important things to look for when writing your poem. Its a bit hard to describe, its very verbose with a ton of bigfoot poems, all I can say is that it was helpful and allowed room for error within your work in progress.
Another really great poem was about the most amazing super hero ever!!!! BATMAN! Yes batman, I nearly died laughing! It was amazingly true, especially about how so many fans treat him as if he were a god! Overall though it was a fantastic chapter!

Poetry:
Of flesh & Spirit by Wang Ping
This poem was my favorite dutring the reading! I loved how Wang moved the poem, and brought culture into the poem. It is very heavily saturated with the cultural expectations, and beliefs of the Chinese.
I liked getting to see the differences of culture. The poem being Chinese and myself ,the reader, being American. It was eye opening and inspiring.
My favorite quote: in socialist China, husbands and wives call each other "my lover"
I adore that line. I thought it was so sweet and romantic. (I'm quite the hopeless romantic)
I highly encourage you to go out and find this peom. It is truely execptional!

This is the poem we wrote in class about Antoine Dodson (sp?), whom I have never heard of until last mondays class. So here it is:
They'er climbing the windows
Beware! Hide yourself!
You can't catch them
The perps are too quick
They left fingerprints behind
"Attempted rape " she cries
One baby, another on the way
The projects are no place for a family
Lincoln Park assults your ears
Homeboy climbed a garbage can
So many felonies
Go tell your peeps
Antione is coming after you
You don't have to confess
He has your evidence
So hide your children
Hide your wife
Hide your husband
The crazy man of the ghetto
Is coming after you!
They'er climbing the windows
Beware! Hide yourself!
You can't catch them
The perps are too quick
They left fingerprints behind
"Attempted rape " she cries
One baby, another on the way

Student Response
This is a wonderful little poem by Surangi Perera
It was a cold summer day,
I walked through the graveyard,
Enticing myself with the surreal surrounding.
The conspicuous marble headstone with the eight red topaz gems,
Allured me and sent chills down my sides.
I felt the touch on my left shoulder,
The cold sublime touch that shriveled my skin
And lurked through me, gliding me past the bare tombs.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This poem is reallt great! I love her imagry and I too feel that it needs to be expanded more.
Why is the character in the graveyard? What is going to happen there? Why is the graveyard so important to the character?
Those sort of things! I cannot wait to see what she does!
2."Let's face it, a nice creamy chocolate cake does a lot for a lot of people; it does for me." — Audrey Hepburn
3. "A room without books is like a body without a soul." — Marcus Tullius Cicero
This is on one of my favorite bookmarks that I got when I was living in Alaska- Lots of good memories!
4. "If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music he hears, however measured or far away." — Henry David Thoreau
5. "Develop an interest in life as you see it; the people, things, literature, music-the world is so rich, simply throbbing with rich treasures, beautiful souls and interesting people. Forget yourself." - Henry Miller
Quotes 2 through 5 are a few of my favorite inspirational quotes! Strangely they are very close to my heart. Enjoy!
Cheese
I questioned to see the curl bending beneath your smile,
age turning us mad through our farm haze.
The haste in yout finger reckaged for mine,
bringing beauty to the veins that surge our existence.
I adore the poem that Ms. Emily Sexton wrote! It is so simplistic and fun together! I liked how short it was, it really worked well for the poem. I loved her use of description throughout the poem and i liked how she had a slight rhyme scheme without it being obvious!!!
Random Entry #2
Okay, so I am going to warn yo about this poem: its a bit off kilter, and it's very personal to me. I was having an off day and i decided to write a poem about my...issues! Just bear with me on this one, its still a baby poem and not even worthy to be called a rough draft! Tell me what I can do to make it better! thanks guys!
NOTE: It is still incomplete...Just so you know!
Scizo
The life she leads is not so normal
She goes by her day like others
Waiting for doctors to call
With results she dreads to hear
The psychologist wants her to come in
Another session of talking and unanswered questions
Instead she lies
She attends school like the others
Trying to concentrate on the professors lesson
But instead thew radio in her head erupts
Voices fill the space
Cluttering her already muddled mind
Sometimes its only a few voices
Easy to distinguish
Others its a cacophony, like an untuned radio
It becomes hard to concentrate
With all the conversations, singing, and bickering
Taking her attention over
They fall silent, as soon as they came
She attempts to keep herself busy
To keep the voices at bay
It only works for so long
The voices return, never ceasing their constant bombardment
There are only four
Four that are themselves, could be real
Three are females, one male
The boy can control her, take over her actions
It scares her, he only does it when he is angry
Which is not too often, luckily
The girls are nicer, they like to converse
And show me many things
It is always what she can only see
She knows it is not real
But it is hard not to fall into their reality
She is never truely alone
They come when they wish
Or when she is upset and lonely
They keep her company as she sleeps
Someday she will have a husband
What shall she do then?
Gentleman Aren't Nice
I've had a few in my life
All of them claimed to be gentelmen
They seemed genuine
Though I learned quickly
That this was not so
They hated when I would speak
to others others of their kind
That I didn't like to hold hands
Or kiss in public
That I would prefer a cup of tea and a book
Over making love to them
They called me selfish,
While I called it charm
Love isn't a paradise
I've been told that it's a two-way street
So far its only one
He'll try to keep you chained to him
To be forever his "woe"fully wedded wife
To bear him the heir he needs
To look pretty and sew
Until death do you part
I'm not known for my advice
So Please heed my plea
Gentlemen aren't nice!
This is a poem I wrote based on a song my favorite musician wrote. It was pure inspiration for me, I haven;t had the best experience with men, so this whole poem makes sense to me. This is the first draft just to forwarn you! It is not the best, but I am hoping to make it better!
Junkyard Quotes!
Yet again another week of music quotes! These quotes that I have compiled are from the incredibly sexy band Avenged Seven Fold (A7X)!!
The quotes that I have chosen either entertain me (see below) or they just hit a note with me. A7X tends to be political and many of their views I support (again, see below)!
1. "So, how does it feel to know that someones kid in the heart of America has blood on their hands fighting to defend your rights so you can maintain the lifestyle that insults his familys existence?....All the way from the east to the west, We got this high society looking down on their very foundation. Constantly reminding us that our actions are the cause of all their problems. Pointing their fingers in every direction, blaming their own nation for who wins elections. They never contributed a fucking thing to the country they love to criticize!!"
"Critical Acclaim"
2. "Cause I really always knew that my little crime Would be cold that's why I got a heater for your thighs And I know, I know it's not your time but bye, bye!" ~ "A Little Piece of Heaven"
3. "Sleep tight, I'm not afraid The ones we love are here with me Lay away a place for me Cause as soon as I'm done I'll be on my way To live eternally. How do I live without the ones I love? Time still turns the pages of the book it's burned Place in time always on my mind And the light you left remains but it's so hard to stay
When I have so much to say and you're so far away" ~ "So Far Away"
4. "Sorry, did I wake your dreams? Some questions run to me We only, only wake up when we sleep Met by the lunar light, trouble's all we find Lost our way tonight. Is it something we said? Is it something we said to them? Is it something we said?!...Ever since the day you let my face being said unknown How many years to walk this path alone? So much to see tonight, so why'd you close your eyes? Why can't I shut mine?
Is it something we did? Is it something we did to them? Is it something we did?!" ~ "Save Me"
5. "Dear God, the only thing I ask of You. Is to hold her when I'm not around, when I'm much too far away. We all need that person who can be true to you but I left her when I found her and now I wish I'd stayed
Cause I'm lonely and I'm tired, I'm missing you again, oh no, once again." ~ "Dear God"
Every day is lived in shadows,
Every movement is performed.
A reflection in a glass,
Constructed through a storm.
People see through crusted windows,
Half the story, and half its form,
Learn the start, find the last,
On a journey to be born.
I think Jenna Morris did a wonderful job with her rhyming- I loved the imagery she put into it and it seems to have taken a bit of thought. I would like to see more of a progression of the poem. Have something else happen, it is a bit unclear to me of the meaning. I may be over analyzing but it loses me. Otherwise TWO thumbs up Jenna!!!
This was an interesting chapter. I've never really had a hard time with finding subjects to write about but it gives a lot of great steps and ideas if you have an issue with subject writing.
A few of the better tactics are: chasing poems and juggling
Chasing poems is where you take your time with your writing. Don't rush to finish it, many great poets will write a full length poem and only save a few lines. It can take a long time but in the long run you come up with better works that are clear and have a definate idea behind it.
Juggling is where a writer has more than one competing subjects within a work. Imagery, setting, and experience are the most popular!
This chapter is dog-eared so that if I have any problems I can just quick flip to the page and figure out what I can do!
Good luck to you on your writing!
Molly Malone (Mol Ní Mhaoileoin)
In Dublin's Fair City
Where the girls are so pretty
I first set my eyes on sweet Molly Malone
As she wheel'd her wheel barrow
Through streets broad and narrow
Crying cockles and mussels alive, alive o!
Chorus
Alive, alive o!, alive, alive o!
Crying cockles and mussels alive, alive o!
She was a fishmonger
But sure 'twas no wonder
For so were her father and mother before
And they each wheel'd their barrow
Through streets broad and narrow
Crying cockles and mussels alive, alive o!
Chorus
Alive, alive o!, alive, alive o!
She died of a fever
And no one could save her
And that was the end of sweet Molly Malone
But her ghost wheels her barrow
Through streets broad and narrow
Crying cockles and mussels alive, alive o!
Chorus
Alive, alive o!, alive, alive o!
This is my favorite old Irish song that my grandmother taught to me when I was a little girl. I thought it would be fun to post and give you a bit of history with it!
Molly Malone was the daughter of fish mongers. She dies at a young age due to fever. No one knows for sure whether she existed or not. There have been numerous birth certificates found from the 1700's but there is no proof of which one is the real Molly.
She is seen by some as being just a fish monger, while some others see her as a "cart pushing hussy". Either way she sticks in the hearts of thousnads of Irish and who knows how many other people around the world.
This is the poem I came up with in Wednesday's class- It is quite personal, I have tweeked it a bit, I made my friend and I older than we were. I guess it helps me to clarify it a bit better in my head and on my paper.
Just to give you some background- My best friend and first love, Kellen, we had known each other for years, since grade school I should think. He had gone to Ireland to visit his grandparents for the St.Patrick's Day Festival in Dublin. Unfortunalty the day after St. Patty's his father's car was hit head first by a semi truck. The driver was drunk. Kellen died on impact, he was only 14, his father is paralyxed from the waist down. I'm still in contact with his father.
It wasn't hard for me to write in class. But it proves hard for me now. Odd I know.
Let me know what you think.
Ode to Kellen
Its strange not seeing you here
The flower vases filled with dead daisies
The movie case shut tight
It feels empty even with my life
Filling this space
Being here will never be the same
All of the fun memories we shared
School, parties, and cooking together
I put away your favorite wine
Hoping, praying that maybe you would come back
But I know in my heart
You can never return
I wonder if the Angels would be angry
If I thought of joining you?
I look for any reminder of you
But find none
You took everything with you to Ireland
Even though six days later
You would never see it again.
I miss you.
I will always cherish you.
In loving memory
So just to let all of you know I have been on a huge My Chemical Romance binge! All of these quotes are in thanks to this great band <3 All of these quotes are just close ot my heart and I wanted to share them! TA DA!
1. "Bad news from the zones tumbleweeds, It looks like Jet Star and the Kobra Kid had a clap with an exterminator that went all Costa Rica and, uh, got themselves ghosted. Dusted out on route guano
So it's time to hit the red line and upthrust the volume out there. Keep your boots tight, keep your gun close and die with your mask on if you've got to."
2. "You've got to make a choice, If the music drowns you out. And raise your voice, Every single time they try and shut your mouth. Sing it for the boys, Sing it for the girls, Every time that you lose it sing it for the world. Sing it from the heart, Sing it till you're nuts, Sing it out for the ones that'll hate your guts. Sing it for the deaf, Sing it for the blind, Sing about everyone that you left behind. Sing it for the world."
3. "If there's a place that I could be, Then I'd be another memory. Can I be the only hope for you? Because you're the only hope for me and if we can't find where we belong we'll have to make it on our own.
Face all the pain and take it on because the only hope for me is you alone "
4. "And you only live forever in the lights you make When we were young we used to say That you only hear the music when your heart begins to break Now we are the kids from yesterday "
5. "I'm who I've got to be These pigs are after me, after you. Run away like it was yesterday and we could run away If we could run away, Run away from here.
I gotta bulletproof heart You gotta hollow point smile We had our run away scarves,Got a photograph dream on the getaway mile.
This poem by Kimberly Rigsby is exactly how I feel about work! The waiting, the boredom, the customers; it all gets so tedious after a while.
I would like to see a bit more to the poem though, maybe add another interaction of somesort, or talk about restalking the priduct, etc. I will tell you this, the simplicity is perfect!
The time goes by
Slower than ever.
Only two hours left
I say to myself.
I grab a box, beep.
How may more days,
Beep, months, and years
Will I be here, beep.
"That's $27.53, sir."
I take the cash,
And give some back.
"Have a good day."
"Yyou too, Miss."
Have a good day?
I can have a good day
In one hour and 58 minutes.
Chapter 4: Style
This chapter was incredibly short, quite a nice breather from the usual chapters.
I enjoyed this chapter because it was insightful to finding one's particular style of writing poetry.
For many poets they all have a definate style and a reader can tell who they are based solely on their style!
I like how it goes a little bit into finding/ creating your specific style. I would have liked it to have been longer on that section because I am having a hard time figuring out my own style.
Professor Ellison's poem was great! (They tend to be so) I really love how you can tell it's her by her style! Her wording and punctuation are spot on! Its really great to see examples of style and get an indepth explaination!
Jupiter
A God of heroes
He created the world
With wonder and might
No fear exists to him the powerful
The moon belonged to the great Jupiter
Until Juno selfishly claimed it for herself
Now they battle with relentless fervor
Until the day the sun shines anew
Upon all that Jupiter made in his image.
The people will rejoice for Jupiter
And herald Mercury the messenger of Gods
To sing their praises to the mighty God of Gods
Who vanquished his queen
And claimed back
The endless shining moon
2. “You’re acting like a pack of rapid dogs! And that, gentlemen, simply will not do.”~ Lucian (Underworld)
Love this movie quote, it reminds me of a friends rugby team. The boys would get so violent and beat each other up before the game. It was insane!
3. “I wanna hug yo' face!” ~ Toy #2 (Coraline)
The first line of the movie I actually payed attention to, It was so cute and unexpected!
4. “Maybe they got bored with you and moved to France.”~ Meagan Neeley
My older sister used ot say this one, I remembered it the other day and I had to call her and remind her about it! She was so horrified that she had said it to me!
5. “You are a vampire who never knew what life was until it ran out in a big gush over your lips”. ~Lestat
Great quote, its a bit true too. You dont realize how delicate life is until its too late to fully accept it.
Skitter, scatter, scurry
Little paws run down the hall
Past the clock that chimes
4 O’clock
Into a hole in the wall
A new world separate from the
Corsets, flowing gowns, and flickering candles
A world of ghosts and magick
The dark underbelly of the house
Their maniacal laughing filling the space
They weave around
A series of mazes and traps
Squeaking warnings
To their many brethren
Their worm-like tails flicking to and fro
Whiskers batting, heart fluttering
Out through another gnawed out hole
Into a dark room filled with silence
They skittered across the room
They skittered across the room
Scattered the toys left upon the floor
And scurried up the bed post
To see the young girl lying wide awake
They surrounded her in the bed
Sniffing her gently
Barely tickling her with their silk whiskers
She looked at them and smiled
All her little friends lovingly about her
They bowed to her in unison
To honor their lovely rat queen
Well while I was reading this weeks assignment, I discovered something I have a problem with, I always get sidetracked when I'm writing... This section gave me numerous tips on how to get the ball rolling again with the Q & A section (absolutely helpful) I have copied them down and have posted it on my bulletin board in my room!
I also figured out how to just sit down and do it! It really gave me a sense of 'I can do this' . Instead of going into a poem know 100% of what I want to write, which lets face it, rarely happens! I know I can write until my hand falls off and then edit it later to make it how I want it to be.
It was an informative section of the book! I am an avid reader and I am highly tempted to read ahead! I cannot wait to put these tips into action this week!
Skin Sketch
By Whitney Johnson
By Whitney Johnson
Owners are like robotics machines with many branches
And some are worn from inked art—
They cause the eyes to dance in color
Or skip into an impression made world.
I have never seen one move, but
Sometimes they grasp the arm tightly.
Fingers are when the body hole floods
And lingers through a pipe:
Then the hole is an ocean and traps
Like gilled birds underneath the blue.
Heat is when the string is lit.
It has the strength of seven suns
And can defeat the nippy notes
That hum through the air with no rhythm.
If it twists like a hook, the flats push it to
Their flesh to a placid paradise.
Extinction is when the cavity swallows—
A wound that fattens the hollow.
In the evening when the hues avert,
They crouch in corners,
And see in inked art, themselves—
In impressions, with the lights out.
Amazing poem! Your word choice is great, and your imagry is amazing!! I love how everyone can understand this poem differently. I would like a few more lines to it though, its great as it is but maybe to add a few more details to it would make it a bit more clear for the readers. I re-read a few times to fully understand it- now that I do I love this poem as well! Great job Whitney, I cannot wait to read more of your work!
Frills and hairballs
By David Mathis
By David Mathis
A curtsy and a soft, warm smile
Framed by golden curls, wispy,
Blowing in a breeze that was cool,
Refreshing even. A sip of tea.
The tea was hot, steaming in its cup.
Soft, padded hands grasped the handle
delicately. Daintily. Pink Dress pressed
with care and a ribbon, faded but new.
She brushed some stray hair from her
Tufted ears. She soothed her tea, calming
And cooling it with gusts of wind from
Her snout. Blackened lips smiled sweetly.
Her legs, crossed, covered in long, golden
Hair. Her tail wrapped around four spindly
Metal legs of a stool. She playfully batted
A stirring spoon with careful claws.
As clouds enfolded the shining sky, she
Gently grabbed an umbrella-- a tastefully
Layered, iced cake-- pink, white, pink.
Slight frame protected from rain, she walked.
Silence between bird calls, soothing shushing
Of raindrops lulled her and cradled her as she
took small, careful steps. Umbrella held just so,
she took the path that wound eventually home.
I adore this poem! This imagery and wording is fabulous! I can enter the world of his poem, I can feel the warmth of the sun and tea (makes me want a cup...)and the cool breeze just creates the best day in my estimation! The character is so cute , I honeslty see her as a cat or maybe a dog! Depends on what you see in the words!
I'm, trying to think of something to add or take away from it but I really like it as it is, I'm sure David doesn't like it but most writers do not like their own works. It really is a wonderful poem, I hope everyone else will enjoy it as well!
I'm inspired to draw it as well! This shall be fun!
Beauty
She lays in silent dreams
Waiting for a prince that may never come
It has been years since she last awoke
Has is been a millenia, or just a decade?
She may never know
For only one can tell her
The rest of her kingdom has long since disappeared
From the memories of those outside
Her people lie in deep slumber as she
Never aging, never hungry
How much has the world changed around them?
Only one can tell her
Her hair the same shade of gold
Her lips as red as a rose
Her beauty never fades
The rats are sure of that
Always making sure her chamber stays clean
And ready for any young man
Who may decide to stray the path
And prove himself worthy of her kiss
But until that day when her prince comes
The princess shall dream of a world long since gone
To those who live outside her castle walls
She will forever remain under the watchful
hands of the rats as their Sleeping Beauty.
2.The woods always seemed to her to wait... -Emerson
I love going outside; camping, hiking, gardening, the whole deal! I feel like the woods are always waiting for me (or any person really). Like they are lonely in their gathering.
3.I am allergic to sadness~ Me...Strangely enough
I forgot to take my Zoloft one day so I was a little...off. This little line popped out in mid tears! Quite funny actually!
4.My remote has a mutant button!~ Lissa
I'm not entirely sure how this one came about, I was sitting with my friend, Lissa, watching Wizards of Waverly place at midnight and we were looking for the "mute" button. The next thing I know she is saying the "mute" button is short for "mutant". I laughed ridiculously hard! I love how her mind works!
5.I have a butt-concussion!~ Lissa
I just flat out love this one...I cannot explain where she got it either. It is what happens when Lissa and I stay up until 2 O'Clock in the morning!
Little Ghost
Why do you hide from me?
I feel your cold touch
I see your spector shadow
Across my walls as I sleep
I know you are there
So why do you not reveal yourself?
Soon people shall think I have gone mad,
And lock me away for fear that
I may begin too see more 'invisible beings'
So please, Show yourself, and do join me for tea <3
This is something I wrote...Oh around Halloween time. This was also not edited!
Your stiches conceal my worries
Your patches hide my fear
You my dear friend keep me sane
In this mad hatter world.
Perhaps someday I can share you with the world?
Nightmare:
"Eyelid pulled open by a hairless demon
Skin stretched tautly
Snapping closed with a fleshy sound
Oozing grins now locked out
Minutes crawl
Cold takes over the lash
Frost kills all things animated
As the sun's rays burn out
Now taken over
The body no longer master
The eye never closed again "
As the sun's rays burn out
Now taken over
The body no longer master
The eye never closed again "
I adore this poem, it's the very feeling I have when I awaken from my nightmares. The feelings of terror, shock, and the coldness of the air, which StAcey depicted beautifully, are exactly what it feels like to awaken from a nightmare, especially if you still feel as if you’re in the dream.
There are a few places where the wording seems a bit off, lines 6 and 7 to be exact. I'm not one-hundred percent sure of it, but a second look may be needed.
This poem is beautiful in its darkness and I love how she grabs your attention and keeps it until the last line! It’s wonderfully dark and gob smacking in its bluntness.
I cannot wait to see what others poems she writes!
Slán go fóill, Oiche maith duit!
Junkyard Quotes!
So I have collected five quotes throughout this past week. Some I adore and read, while others I overheard and I am still puzzled over...but I find them amusing!
1. "All gardens are a form of autobiography". -Robert Dash I love this quote, and I find it to be true. My mum and myself's garden does show our personality with in it, the flowers we choose and how we care for them. It even shows in my own home with my mini garden!
2. "Fearless minds climb soonest into crowns." -Shakespeare
First of all I'm a shakespear nut! I read this quote in a biography I have about him and I feel that it is true. Those who take risks to get to where they want to be will get there faster than those who always play it safe.
3. “You've got to do your own growing, no matter how tall your grandfather was.”- my friends father
I was talking with a friend over skype, he lives in Ireland, and we were talking about all sorts of things, mostly troubles and his father popped on and told me this. He is most certainly right! You have to live up to your own hieght no matter how much greater someone else was. I guess it means "Be who you are ment to be, not what others want you to be."
4. "You're an apple short of a fritter"- random person I happened to pass on my way to class
I thought this was so funny! It was just great to overhear it and I'm pretty sure that it means you might be crazy?
5. "Excuses are like backsides. Everybody’s got one and they all stink".- overheard somewhere
Oh so true! No more excuses people! Anyways, as I said a earlier it is true, I overhear a lot of excuses everyday when I'm walking around campus. People will even make up excuses to their friends that you know are not true or just plain weird. I think it's an interesting quote and has a good meaning??
All of these quotes I feel are great! I love their meanings and their insinuations. I suppose they all have a little something to teach us about life and ourselves!
Thank you and I hope you have a wonderful evening!
P.S. I woul dlove to know what you think!
